The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.
- Andy Rooney

Taffy is somewhere between 13-15 years old.
She lost both eyes due to glaucoma and she is
deaf. In addition, she has some mammory
tumors. She was pulled from a shelter about 3
years ago after being discarded by her people
when her days as a breeder were over. She is
sweet little old girl who loves to hang out in
her kiddie pool! She gets along great with her
roomies in sanctuary care and spends hers
days either in the pool or napping under a tree.
She is very content in her life here and is a
happy, tail waggin' girl.
This is Buck. He is somewhere over 10 years old,
his vision is declining, and his hearing just isn't
what it used to be. He was originally saved from
the shelter by a kind hearted person who fell on
some tough times, so we took him into our little
sanctuary. He is a sweet old boy, and loves
everyone he meets! He is the official greeter to
newcomers in his area! This boy just wiggles and
wags the day away when he isn't napping :-) His
favorite time of day is when I wake him up in the
morning and when he gets his bedtime cookies! A
wonderful guy who will happily live his life out
here with me.

This is Tally! A beautiful, sweet, loving 9 year old that was
coldy left at the shelter by his owner. His person very calmy
told the shelter worker that "it was time". Time for what?
This guy still has alot of life left in him, he interacts with
other dogs very well, is spunky for a senior and absolutely
loves people. His vision isn't 100% anymore, but he still sees
just fine and gets around great. Not a mean bone in his body
and all he wants is to be loved. He is safe here in the
sanctuary, but if you have a little space in your heart or your
home, maybe he could live his life out with you? You wouldn't
be sorry!

Ollie came from a shelter in Southern California where he
was scheduled to be put to sleep. When he was pulled from
the shelter by one of the volunteers, he was covered in
infected and bleeding sores from head to toe and had two
kinds of ear infections. He was miserable to say the least.
He came here to stay with me and get treatment. He was
diagnosed with an autoimmune skin disorder and had a
congenital bone problem where the bones in his elbow never
fully developed and grew together. Thankfully, Second
Chance Cocker Rescue got him the medical care he needed,
which included biposies to diagnose his skin disorder and
two surgeries to put pins in his elbow. He will need
treatment (medication orthopedic follow up and routine
baths) for the duration of his life but I am thrilled to say
that he is doing amazingly well. He has come a long way.
Thanks to the SCCR he is a happy dog! I feel blessed to be
his permanent foster mom and be involved involved as a
sacntuary foster. It as been so rewarding to see him recover
and thrive.
Buddy is an 11-year old chocolate male
cocker who came from a shelter in the
L.A. area. He had a leg with severe
arthritis and was going to be euthanized
for that and because of his age. He is
now in a sanctuary home with Michelle
in the Sacramento area. UPDATE:
Michelle became ill and can no longer
take care for Buddy. He is now staying
with Joann.
Beau is a lovely boy who came to us from the Redding
area. Beau is around 10 years old. The owner was
going to shoot him, so some neighbors contacted us and
we had him transported to Sacramento. He ended up
having heartworm and went thru heartworm treatment
and is just fine now. He is being loved and cared for
in Jackson with Roger and Enid.
Ozzie is an 11+ year old male that was brought into
one of our vets' office to be euthanized. Our vet
thought he was such a sweet boy that they called
us and we took him in until we found the
DeBenedetti family who took him in as a sanctuary
dog. He had a horrible skin condition and with the
loving care of the the DeBenedetti's he is doing
much better.
We were told there was a blind senior at the Long Beach
shelter. Once we took a look at his picture we knew we had to
pull him. Jill B. offered to pull him and transport him to us. Once
she saw him, she immediately called us and told us he was very
sick. He had a snotty nose and bad cough. We told her we
wanted him anyway.

We had no idea how truly sick he was. We made an appointment
for him at our vets to see someone right away. Dr Kristin said
that his chest X-rays showed lungs that were so filled with
fluid that they showed solid white and you could not see
anything else. He was diagnosed with a very severe case of
pneumonia on top of horrid ear infections, glaucoma and eye
infections.

After two weeks of heavy antibiotics his next X-ray showed
lots of clearing in the lungs but it also showed an enlarged
heart. We are keeping up the antibiotics to get rid of the
pneumonia forever and we will have to see what his heart will
do. The good news is the cough is subsiding and that is very
good news for his heart.

We have put sweet Paulie into Sanctuary with Barb in Santa
Maria where he gets rocked and cuddled every day. We are
hoping his heart isn’t as bad as it first looked and we can keep
him healthy and loved for several more years.

We want to thank you for all your support without which we
would not be able to take in dogs like Paulie who need
expensive medical care. All proceeds from the Spring Raffle
will go towards Paulie’s medical costs and our 2010 kitten
expenses.
